Via Boing Boing comes this cool look at a year in the life of high school teacher Dan Meyer.
If I did this project, Lady GaGa would be at the top my list for most played artist, Twitter would be the winner for most visited web site and Erica would take the prize for most texted.

I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be a background artist (read: extra) in “Marley & Me”. The DVD comes out today and since I wasn’t asked to appear at any launch parties or DVD signings, I forced the fabulous Erica Smith, my fan club president (seriously), to interview me.

<img class="size-full wp-image-129" title=""Marley & Me" scene 3" src="http://ohmykevin.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/marley-and-me1.jpg" alt="A scene from "Marley & Me". You can spot me starting at the 2:40 mark in the 3rd scene of the movie.

Here is our late night chat conversation:

Erica: So! omk! It’s Kevin Cobb! Do you have time for a few questions?!

Kevin: lol
Kevin: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Erica: OK, so the “Marley & Me” DVD comes out today — today! It seems like you were shooting it just yesterday.

Kevin: I know! It seems like just yesterday I was making the 7 a.m. trek to the Sun Sentinel newsroom to film.

Erica: 7 a.m. is too early for any job.
Erica: The DVD is getting a lot of promotion from a dog food company. What about people? Any good perks?
Erica: (Puppy Chow, btw. I did my homework!)

Kevin: lol — what do you mean people?

Erica: You should get … something! Free newspapers? Trips to the beach? idk. That dog looks like trouble. Your scenes however, didn’t include Marley, but other stars of the movie. Tell your fans about your time on the set.

Kevin: WELL … there was a lot of sitting and waiting for us to actually get on set. But once we actually arrived on set — the newsroom — they would place us in various positions, depending on the scene. Some extras had walk-bys, others sat at desks.

Erica: Working for a newspaper is quite serious work. How did you ever prepare for such a role?

Kevin: I’m good at pretending to work.

Erica: lol
Erica: What was the most fun?

Kevin: Everything! From creating a head shot, to getting fitted for clothes, being on set and actually seeing myself on the big screen — and now the DVD!

A scene from "Marley & Me". You can spot me in the beginning of the 26th scene in the movie.

Erica: The movie takes place a couple of years — decades — ago, right? What did that mean for wardrobe?

Kevin: For wardrobe, they asked everyone to bring a few items from our closet. Khakis, dress pants, button down shirts, jean shirts, ties, etc. They gave guidelines on what they were looking for. A few of the other extras were sad when the wardrobe people LOVED the ’80s clothes they brought in. Turns out, they were still wearing them.

Erica: lol

Kevin: No names!

Erica: What was the name of your character?

Kevin: They made us fake press passes! We even took photos for them. I think on all the badges they had the name Sebastian, Eric Dane’s character.

Erica: Did you get to keep it?

Kevin: Some of the extras may have forgot to turn in their fake press passes.

Erica: Did you get to keep anything from the set?

Kevin: I have a little blue pass that says “CREW Marley & Me” — we had to use it to get in the first day.

Erica: The movie used the real Sun Sentinel newsroom, with a few changes. Signs, older computers, that sort of thing. Does any of that remain?

Kevin: Nope, they took everything down after the movie. It was cool to see the our newsroom change into a Hollywood newsroom.

Erica: What’s next? Any other acting gigs? Directing? Producing? Eating popcorn in the theater?

Kevin: I think my Hollywood days are over. Maybe. Probably. We’ll see!
Kevin: Do you want to be my agent?

Erica: I would love to!
Erica: OK, the most important question: What do you want to say to your fan club members? Any advice?

Kevin: Start stalking me!
